Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition is officially landing on macOS starting July 17, bringing native support for Apple silicon Macs for the first time. Initially scheduled for early 2025, the game is now launching via the Mac App Store, Steam, Epic Games Store, and GOG.com — marking a major milestone for bringing AAA titles to the Mac gaming ecosystem.
This highly anticipated Cyberpunk 2077 Mac release has been optimized to run on a wide range of Apple silicon chips, from the M1 series up to the latest M4 generation. However, compatibility is limited to models with at least 16GB of unified memory, meaning base models with 8GB RAM, such as entry-level M1 and M2 Macs, are not supported. This requirement ensures better performance and stability during gameplay.
CD Projekt Red has fine-tuned the game to fully leverage Apple’s Metal graphics API and Tile-Based Deferred Rendering (TBDR) architecture. Each Apple chip family will benefit from custom graphics presets, and more powerful devices will enable path tracing — a feature that brings next-level lighting, shadows, and realism to Night City. Support for MetalFX upscaling and AMD FSR (FidelityFX Super Resolution) ensures smooth frame rates, even with advanced visual effects enabled.
Mac gamers can expect full support for Apple’s Magic Mouse and Trackpad, offering an intuitive native control experience. Those using HDR-capable monitors like the Apple Pro Display XDR will enjoy vibrant color and contrast, while spatial audio with head tracking is available when using AirPods for a more immersive gaming session. These features represent a major leap forward for Apple silicon gaming and help close the gap between PC and Mac gaming experiences.
Although some users have previously accessed Cyberpunk 2077 on Mac through Apple’s Proton-like game porting toolkit, this is the first fully native version of the game. The official release takes full advantage of Cyberpunk 2077 for Mac features, including native rendering and enhanced system resource management.
The launch also coincides with the game’s latest 2.3 patch, which brings new cars and improvements to the photo mode. The Ultimate Edition includes the Phantom Liberty expansion and supports cross-progression, allowing players to sync their saves across platforms — a welcome feature for multi-device users.
This launch signals a broader shift in the industry as major titles like Cyberpunk 2077 are finally arriving on macOS with full native support. For fans of immersive RPGs and futuristic storytelling, Cyberpunk 2077 on Mac may be the beginning of a new era in premium Mac gaming.
